Assessment of the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of seaweed-derived extracts

  11 September 2024

The study aimed to assess the in vitro properties of seaweed extracts, including Ascophyllum nodosum (AN), Palmaria palmata (PP), Ulva lactuca (UL), and 1:1 mixes (ANPP, ANUL, PPUL), in swine farming. The results showed that AN and UL significantly inhibited the growth of F4+ and F18+ bacteria, while PP and mixes did not. The extracts also exhibited antioxidant activities, with AN showing the strongest dose-response. The study suggests that AN and UL seaweed extracts may be potential in-feed additives due to their potential antibacterial and antioxidant effects.
